Power Down the Device: Before cleaning, turn off the cash register to ensure safety and prevent potential electrical issues.
Prepare the Cleaning Card: Remove the cleaning card from its packaging. These cards are typically pre-saturated with a cleaning solution designed to remove contaminants.
Clean the Card Reader:
- For Swipe (Magnetic Stripe) Readers: Insert and swipe the cleaning card through the reader slot multiple times, mimicking the motion of a regular card swipe.
- For Chip (EMV) Readers: Insert the cleaning card into the chip reader and leave it in place for a few seconds to allow the solution to work, then remove it.
- For Contactless (NFC) Readers: If applicable, follow the manufacturer’s instructions, which may involve placing the cleaning card over the contactless sensor area.
Dispose of the Cleaning Card: single use. Properly dispose of the card after cleaning.
